Call me anything but "farmist"...

1 month + 1 day later (more fun)

8/14/2007. 8am-10pm(actually 11pm) at my home store. Felt good to be "back" and worked with people that I had known for years.

To begin with: I knocked on the front door for 5 minutes before someone would let me in.

In between: There was a new tech who seemed really nice and polite. Our regional supervisor stopped by---surprise! He was the Mr. Perfect as usual >3< (Glad that I didn't put on sneakers to work). Our familiar "trouble" customer told me she felt really sick after taking that steroid dose-pak, later went to the hospital, and finally able to stop by to get her new prescriptions filled. The principal of EKU, another familiar customer, stopped by and said she'd miss us when she move to Illinois. Another kid come to picked up his mom's medicine---he's grown so much for the past few years (this makes me feel old). The entire day was slow...slow.....slow.......

To end: The front sliding door was stuck---couldn't close the door and go home. Front store supervisor tried screwing/unscrewing every screw she could find (and got the hammer, too) but no luck. I called the door maintenance company and left an SOS message---no return call. She called the store manager. 30 minutes after normal closing time, manager came and brought a tool kit. He hammered and screwed, too, but no luck again. Despirately he called the door company and ADT. While he was still tied up with the phone, I picked up the hammer, hit real hard on the "magic" spot, and waalaa! We could slide the door close again and go home. It was already 11pm...

Friday 13th & Awesome

Woke up yesterday morning expecting to work 4 hours, then celebrating in the evening. There was probably a good reason to celebrate--I took my licensure exam last Friday and I was pretty confident that I would pass. Heard that test result usually came back in a week or less. I told mom to watch for any "suspicious" letter in the mail.

Mom dropped me off at work in the store where I hadn't worked at since last summer. I was still a pharmacy intern at 11am. The pharmacist immediately whispered to me, "Do you have TB?"
"Hell, no!" I thought, but I answered it in a more polite manner. What a rumor to start off the day.

Then at around12:30, after missing 2 phone calls from home, mom stopped by the store and showed me the letter (already opened). "Dear Pharmacist Chai," I read the first line and smiled. Just smiled. The pharmacist (not me, the other one) asked why I didn't jump up and down and said she would've jumped up to the roof. Conserving energy by not jumping was my excuse.

After finishing up some work, I called my supervisor announcing the good news. Within 15 minutes, he called back and told me to head to his store in Paris, KY at once. He worked 8am-midnight the night before and was scheduled to work 8am-10pm again Friday. If I could work for him for the remaining of the day he could head home and take some rest. He also added, "Jeremy said bring his CD to him, too." I said okay, then I was calling my mom immediately so she could pick me up from work.

Couldn't reach my mom and I knew she was hanging out at her friend's restaurant. Then I called home desparately. Brother answered it. Yeah!! He got off work a couple hours early and he could pick me up. When my brother was on his way to the pharmacy, I was able to reach mom and let her know the situation.

After taking about 40 minutes to get home (normally about 10 minutes), I choked down some bread and hit the road. Never been to the store in Paris. Only knew that if I kept driving down Old Paris Pike it'll be on the right.

I was stuck in traffic in town, and needed to stop by the gas station because brother didn't bother to fill up the gas tank. I was running late and worried that my supervisor would be mad at me. It was almost a 40-minute drive. As soon as I was turing into the CVS parking lot I got a call from the store I was in earlier that day. They said the Paris store called and wonder where I was at--they thought I had a crash. Great. I never wish to be in a crash.

I was happy to see two familiar faces in the store--my supervisor and my classmate who let me borrow his new Maroon 5 CD. There were a few technicians that I didn't know. My supervisor handed me some keys, briefly showed me how to set the alarm before I left the pharamcy at closing time. Within 5 minutes he was gone. I didn't realized that I'd be the only pharmacist to keep the store open until later on that afternoon. Retarded me.

The two girl techs left before 4pm. Then my classmate left at 5pm. There left 1 intern (starting pharmacy school this fall semester) and a tech who would be turning 20 on Saturday (today). Guys were talking about guys' stuff, so I didn't try to join the conversation. They talked me into buying a car. "Honda, you need a Honda. That's what I want," the tech said. I wasn't thinking about buying any car at that moment. Then the car discussion continued for a while and I had little idea what they were talking about. The tech left at 8. The intern was supposed to work til 9pm. I heard his friend called and they had to meet up an hour later. I felt bad for not being able to work on my own for the last hour.

Work wasn't too rough. Not too many problems for me to solve. My classmate solved a major one before he left. The intern solved another one or two major ones after everybody was gone. Didn't get a chance to eat anything, so I quickly bought a can of Soup at Hand and it took me 2 hours (8-10pm) to finish it. I offered the intern to leave at around 9:15. Glad that he stayed. We got a little busy filling about 12 scripts in 20 minutes. Then there was a middle-age man complaining not able to fall and stay asleep. He seemed to want us to hand him some medicines. The intern had a really long conversion with him--just trying to get him discuss the matter with his doctor. That man kept us in the store til past 10pm. We were late closing the store. I had no idea on the closing procedure and luckily the intern knew. It took us a little while to figure out how to put the gate up and lock everything etc. Finally we all were able to leave. The clock in my car read 10:23 when I started the engine. Got home at 11pm and started eating my supper--bread, fruit, milk, sesame sticks. Still full as I'm writing this post.

Soon after I got home, I realized that I left a few packages of insulin syrings by the drive-thru window. Some college-age kids bought one pack at the drive-thru (I was a little suspicious at first but when one kid called mom and ask about gauge size then I was a little more comfortable, still not completely comfortable, selling it) and I grabbed several packs. Knew my first day as a pharmacist wouldn't be that smooth.

Now I'm going to have a good night sleep even though I'm worrying about all the mistakes I made on Friday the 13th.

Dr. Chai

Ha Ha! Finally a PharmD! Now gotta start studying for the licensure exam so I can become a registered pharmacist...

Graduation ceremony was neat. I made a little mistake and looked stupid, but it was okay. Stupidity is good ;P Couldn't find all the people that I wanted to take a picture with. Should've stayed for a little longer after the ceremony to hunt for them!

Graeter's ice cream after the ceremony....yummy yummy!

Difficult week

Facing the wall 8 hrs a day in the basement working on projects & researching...almost got everything done except for a big presentation next week and the dyspnea/delirium discussion. So much pressure from my preceptor

Not being able to talk to (to be exact, getting responses from) someones is driving me crazy.

Already lost a few lbs in a few days...maybe I'm depressed......

April 30th yet???
